School Learning Plan

School Goals

  1. Numeracy

By Grade Six 90% of students will be at grade level in Mathematical Skill. Our definition of Mathematical Skill includes basic math facts, computation and creating a common language that can lead to increased skill level in problem solving. We shall also develop in students a willingness to take risks and make logical guesses. Our staff recognized that our scores are below the district average and that overall, in classes, students struggle with basic facts, number sense and problem solving strategies. Through the use of early intervention strategies and various Math initiatives, the teachers will work with students to increase their understanding of Math and to increase their overall Mathematical skills. Teachers will use professional development opportunities and the expertise of the District Numeracy Coordinators to update their knowledge on Math instruction.

  2. Social Emotional Development

A positive school climate is foundational to academic learning. At Rayleigh Elementary we have many students that need support with regulation strategies. Teachers feel that we need to address as a whole school and have common language as students move through the grades.

I Am, I Can, I Care, I Will” Personal awareness and responsibility includes the skills and strategies that help students to stay healthy and active, set goals, monitor progress, regulate emotions, respect their own rights and the rights of others, manage stress, and persevere in difficult situations. Students who demonstrate personal awareness and responsibility demonstrate self-respect and express a sense of personal well-being. Research shows that student who are having difficulty dealing with friends, school life, home life etc. Have difficulty learning new concepts and growing intellectually. By addressing these concerns we will help students feel safe and capable, thus allowing for maximum learning to take place.
